Redbank Plains Veterinary Surgery Staff

Hans and Dawn

Redbank Plains Veterinary Surgery opened its doors in 1984, trading first of all as Bellbird Park Veterinary Surgery, then Redbank Plains Veterinary Hospital and finally Redbank Plains Veterinary Surgery. For 30 years, Hans Wolfik faithfully served this community as the Owner and Vet in this home-based practice. He provided exceptional care to both pets and owners, being available after-hours, even sometimes on Christmas Day.

Hans was working in the practice as usual on Saturday 30th August 2014, but that afternoon he experienced a sudden and inexplicable Brain Haemorrhage and passed away two weeks later.  With the help and dedication of wonderful staff, his wife Dawn continued running the practice, with Veterinarian Danny Cilento capably continuing the high standard of Veterinary Care that was so important to Hans. We love that our Practice is family-based, on acreage and away from shops and cars – a relaxed and safe environment for both pets and owners.

We Welcome new clients and welcome all our long term and regular ones. Say hello to Dawn, the owner, who lives at the house by the surgery, if you see her around.

Lead Vet – Dr Danny Cilento, BVSc

Doctor Danny started working with our practice in 2014 and quickly became a client favourite.

Danny graduated from the University of Queensland in Veterinary Science and has since added a post-graduate degree in Surgery from the University of Sydney to his skills.

He has 21 years of veterinary experience behind him and is well-versed in all emergency and routine surgical procedures, including orthopaedic surgery.

Danny has worked for the Animal Welfare League, Vets Beyond Borders in India, and co-owned a surgery for fifteen years prior to coming to us.

Danny enjoys painting, camping and sports.

He lives locally with his beautiful wife, three young children, two fluffy cats and multiple chickens and fish.

Shane de Graaf (Adv. Dip Hotel Management & B. Min)

Shane has been with our practice for approximately 15 years, firstly as a veterinary nurse/assistant and for the last nine years as Practice Manager.

He is a high-energy person who is willing to spend time with each individual client, answering their questions and listening to their concerns.

Shane is married with four young children (including twin girls) and is also a Pastor of a Local Church in Bellbird Park.

We also have a staff of three part-time veterinary nurses, all of whom are at various levels in their veterinary nurses training.

Nikki Dempsey – Senior Nurse

- Certificate 3 Veterinary Nursing
- Certificate 3 Dog Training & Behaviour – undertaking.

Nikki has actively worked in the animal industry for the past 12 years and has been the senior nurse here at Redbank Plains Vet for the past 5. Between having 2 children and accumulating a small zoo at home in recent years, Nikki gained the Certificate 3 in Vet Nursing qualification and is currently studying to become a nationally accredited and recognized Dog Trainer and Behaviour Consultant with the NDTF. Nikki is extremely passionate about dog training and loves to help others gain a better understanding of how to get the best out of their furry best friend. She is also passionate about reproduction, whelping, and neonatal animal care.

In her spare time, Nikki likes to compete in various canine sports with her 3 dogs and other interests include playing footy, riding dirt bikes, and spending quality time with her family.

Veterinary Technician – Gemma Ward, BAppSc (Veterinary Technology)

Nurse Gemma is relatively new to the veterinary world.

She began working with our practice while attending study, and graduated in 2014 from the Gatton Campus of the University of Queensland.

Gemma has always been passionate about animal health and could not imagine working in any other industry.

She is committed to ensuring patients (and their humans!) in her care go home happy and healthy, and has personal experience living with pets with heart, kidney and joint disease.

Gemma is always ready to greet everyone with a big smile and happy to help owners with questions in any way she can. She enjoys video games, cuddling puppies, and drawing cartoons.

Meet our Team!

As well as our Vet Danny Cilento, Vet Patty Wu and Practice Manager Shane we have an amazing team of caring Vet Nurses.  We cannot wait to be of assistance to you and your beloved pet!
